Bradford illegal exporter fined £12,200.
25th February 2011

Director of Quest International Trading has been convicted of illegally exporting old computers and other waste to Afghanistan. Naveed Sohail was convicted at Bradford Magistrate's Court on 24th February 2011 of four counts of illegally storing and shipping hazardous waste.
Sohail, 44, who respresented himself in court was fined £1,000 for each of the four offences and was ordered to pay £8,200 in prosecution costs.
On 1st September 2009, Environment Agency officers stopped and returned a container bound for Afghanistan after checks determined the contents were electrical waste. Sohail denied dealing in waste and told officers that his company did not purchase electrical waste and that he would reject anything damaged in transit as a result of insufficient packaging.
