£500,000 fines planned for NHS data loses.
2nd July 2011

Information comissioner Christopher Graham has called for tougher penalties for NHS trusts and hospitals who lose patients' medical records. NHS staff have lost memory sticks, laptops and documents, which have caused data breaches.
Christopher Graham said there is a "disturbing" culture in the health service, adding "there's just too much of this stuff going on."
A meeting has been requested by Graham with David Nicholson, chief executive of the NHS to discuss the problem of data security within NHS departments. Graham revealed that five more health organisations have agreed to improve security following major data breaches.
